About the Publication
In 2021 the Rapallo Border Historical Society published a comprehensive documentary publication on the barracks and border posts of the Royal Financial Guard (Regia Guardia di Finanza), which served to monitor the Rapallo border on the Italian side during the period 1920–1947.
The book systematically catalogues preserved and documented border structures along the entire course of the Rapallo border — from the Julian Alps in the north to the Adriatic Sea near Kaštel in the south. Each barracks building is presented with its historical context, location, architectural characteristics and photographic material.
Contents
The publication covers documentation of border structures across all 58 sectors of the Rapallo border. In addition to photographs of preserved buildings, it contains archival floor plans, maps of the distribution of border posts and historical photographs from the period of the financial guard's operation.
Special attention is paid to the typology of structures: from simple wooden barracks to massive stone-built barracks with their own water supply, telephone line and arms store. The book is the result of years of fieldwork and archival research in Italian and Slovenian archives.
